West of Waterproof, LA in Tensas Parish on Highway 566 (U.S. 65). It was in sections 32, 29 and 28. It was along what is now the south side of Highway 566 just before it abruptly turns south at it's intersection with highway 571. It's northern boundary appears to have been Waterbule Bayou and it's western boundary was probably Green Bayou.
This plantation was on land purchased by Abijah Hunt prior to 1811. Abijah's nephew David Hunt, who inherited a lot of his estate, had Belle Ella Plantation on this land. It was surely inherited by David's descendants. In 1872 it was owned by T.W. Hunt.
Hunt
David Hunt had a granddaughter through his son Abijah named Ella. The plantation was probably named after her and went to the then deceased Abijah after the Civil War when David Hunt's estate was divided.
David Hunt owned many plantations. See the Woodlawn Plantation MS page for more on this. Belle Ella adjoined David Hunt's Argyle Plantation .
