Historical notes

Arundo is the Indian word for cane. The plantation was 1,200 acres and owned by Joseph Dunbar and his wife Olivia (Magruder) Dunbar. Joseph was a son of Robert Dunbar of Oakley Grove Plantation in Adams County. Joseph and Olivia only had one child - a son who died at age ten.
