About Me

I am a financial analyst & accountant by day, with a BS from Florida State University (FSU) in Management and an MBA from Georgia State University in International Business. I am taking the GRE exams soon to pursue a Masters of History at FSU. My specialization will be the Civil War, primarily from the perspective of the state of Florida's role (especially Duval County). I wish to pursue the History Degree primarily to learn how to professionally research and write. My ultimate goal is to complete my dream project, a historical novel on the role of Florida and its people in the Civil War; I have given it a working title of "Gone with the Florida Wind". :-)

I would say I have been an amateur genealogist for years, becoming fairly proficient over the past 3-4 years. One of my motto's is: how can you know where you're going if you don't know where you came from?

My family names of primary interest (and associated plantations) are: Mahoney, Hardee (Rural Home, Rural Felicity, Black Point, Donerale, Honeymoon), Richardson (Harmony Hall), Haddock (Rural Home and Honeymoon), Adams, Bonner, Fleming, Thornton, Bessent (the Archibald Clark House in St. Mary's, GA), Berrie (Hickory Bluff - adjacent to Rural Felicity in Camden County, GA), Braddock.

Plantations/ Workplaces I'm Researching

  • Rural Home - My Great Great Grandfather, Lucius Augustus Hardee, ran this plantation in Duval County, Florida (Jacksonville), that was burned during the war.

  • Rural Felicity - This was the ancestral home of Thomas Ellis Hardee, my GGG Grandfather, located in Pitt County, North Carolina. His brother was Lieutenant General William Joseph Hardee, West Point Commandant and later CSA general under R.E. Lee.

  • Harmony Hall - Plantation near the Cape Fear River in Bladens County North Carolina, owned by Colonel James Richardson, officer in the Revolutionary War (fourth Great Grandfather of mine). See the following website for pictures and history, as the home and site is owned and run by Bladens County: http://www.harmonyhallnc.com/

  • Black Point - Plantation owned by Thomas Ellis Hardee, located near St. Mary's, GA.
