Historical notes
Joshua Lawrence was a Baptist minister, farmer, pamphleteer, and a son of John and Absilla Bell Lawrence. At the age of about 17, Joshua inherited the plantation from his father. The plantation was located on the West side of Fishing Creek, about a mile and a half above where it joined the Tar River. The house where he resided was constructed ca. 1810.
